Christian Living News

Christian Living continues to grow with new Sunday morning classes and Adult Bible studies.  After our all church retreat, we continue to stand in support of our mission statement to continue to offer opportunities for nurture and knowledge in living a holy life dedicated to God.  If you feel the need to raise your level of commitment by attending a Sunday morning class or Bible study, there is information at the “Information Station” in the Narthex and more information on the bulletin board just outside the Education office area.  Or you may call Rev. Rebecca Grogan and I’d be happy to talk with you about ways we can help you grow in your faith and understanding.  There are as many ways to go about growing in faith as there are people in the world so we can make something work for you. Come see us!

DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY

"If you make my word your home you will indeed be my disciples." -- John 8:31

                       The New Jerusalem Bible

The dream began in Flower Mound.  In March 1986 a group of eighteen gathered in Flower Mound, Texas, committed to a dream of describing and developing a pastor-directed Bible study for training Christian disciples.

The title Disciple includes both identity and purpose.  The disciple is a learner, believer, follower, proclaimer.  In the Bible the word disciple is connected with instruction and training.

Therefore, the purpose of Disciple is to develop strong Christian leaders through regular in-depth study of Scripture.  Disciple making and Christian nurturing are its goals.

What are hopes-for results of the program?  Biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples.

Disciple 1, Sunday 5pm to 7pm, Began October 1, 2006

Disciple:  Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study is an in-depth study of the Old and New Testaments.  It takes participants from Genesis through Revelation prompting them along the way to consider their human condition and become disciples.  34 weeks.

Disciple 2, Monday 6:30pm to 9pm, Began October 2, 2006

Disciple:  Into the Word, Into the World moves deeper into the word in this study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts.  Participants study themes of pride, hospitality, patience, and humility as we consider how we are called into ministry in the world around us.  32 weeks.

Short Term Disciple Bible Studies:  Invitation to the New Testament

Sunday, 5pm to 7pm, Began October 15, 2006

The story of Jesus is the starting point for understanding the church's identity and mission.  This study weaves a dialog between that story, as told by Matthew, and the other New Testament writings.  Participants learn how the New Testament writers wrestled with the issues and implications of the story of Jesus for the formation of communities of faith.
