Weekly Messenger - Jan. 13, 2008
WELCOME We heartily greet all worshipers in the name of Christ our Lord. It’s our goal to live as members of God’s family. Please extend your hand to greet one another warmly and sincerely.
JANUARY COMMITTEE OF THE MONTH: SPR The SPR/SPPRC (staff-parish relations/staff pastor-parish relations committee) could be defined as the Human resources department of our congregation. The committee is composed of a minimum of five to a maximum of nine members, plus the lay leader to the annual conference. Members are selected by the lay leadership committee and approved during annual charge conference. Membership is divided into three classes, with each class serving a three-year term. One class (class of 2008), is elected each year. The committee meets quarterly, or at the request of the bishop, district superintendent, pastor, or other persons accountable to the committee.
Duties of the committee are: To encourage, strengthen, nurture, support, and respect pastors and staff and their families. To support unity in the church. To evaluate and make recommendations on pastors and staff on a yearly basis.
These are just a few of the many responsibilities of the SPR committee. If you have any questions or comments, please contact anyone of the following committee members:

CONFIRMATION CLASS Confirmation class is open to any student from 6th through 12th grade. Contact Rebecca Grogan at 972-625-1281 to register. We have a new format and new curriculum. Remember: Faith seeks knowledge…
YOUTH WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY!!! Wednesday, January 9 at 7 pm, we began an “Invitation to the New Testament” Bible study. Invitation is a short-term, in-depth Bible study that takes the beginning of the church, its identity, mission and theology at its starting point---the story of Jesus. At the end of the eight weeks you will be awarded a certificate of completion during Sunday morning worship. Facilitator for the study will be Paula Ward. There is a participant’s book you will need to purchase and you will need a study Bible and a desire to know the Bible and God. Oh yeah, it’s fun too.
PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY VIGIL Here you go; a chance to practice the discipline of prayer. Every year the youth sponsor the prayer vigil here at the church for those who want to come in and pray for the church, our nation and individuals and Christian unity. We are going for a 24-hour vigil beginning at 6 pm on Friday, January 18 and ending at 6 pm on January 19. We will need people to sign up for one-hour time slots throughout the 24 hours, at least two people for each slot. It’s not a labor intensive activity but it’s spiritual intensive! Sign up in the narthex.
NEW ALTAR FLOWER CALENDAR It’s not too early to sign up for altar flowers for 2008. The cost is only $25 and you can take them home after the 11:00am service. The calendar is located on the bulletin board in the narthex across from the new visitor center. Check it out.
