 Weekly Messenger - Feb. 24, 2008

WELCOME

St. Paul wrote: "Let love be genuine; ... hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection" (Romans 12:9-10, NRSV).  In that spirit, we welcome

everyone.

FEBRUARY COMMITTEE OF THE MONTH: MISSIONS

The church in Mission continues the model of Jesus Christ in Mission. We are all partners in God's mission and are all called to participate.

What mission work have you done lately? Sometimes we think that mission is someone else's job. But what if we all tried to do a mission orientated activity each month. Not big projects each month, save those for the summer or what ever time your schedule is a little lighter. But each month we could all participate in small mission activities. Working a two hour shift at our food pantry. Making lunches for Kids Eat Free one night. Reading stories during your lunch hour at Project Transformation. Help out in the office during Lent and Advent. We also have plenty of those big projects. Work one weekend at Amigos. Volunteer for Vacation Bible School. Shop for a family at Christmas. The mission committee is currently working on a year round calendar of opportunities so that each person can easily find just the right area to get involved.

At this time we are looking for someone ready to step up in Mission. We need a Hospitality Coordinator for Amigos. This person will be responsible for coordinating snacks and lunches for the two weekends of Amigos. Please see Paula Ward or Jerry Graham if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.

EASTER MEANS MORE THAN CHOCOLATE BUNNIES & BASKETS…

Have you ever wondered what happened during Jesus’ last week on earth?  And what exactly is “Lent?”  The Synago Sunday School class, for High School and Middle School youth, will be studying these questions and more during our Lent Series.  This study is at 9:45am in the portable building.  Please join us for this unforgettable journey into the story that changed the world.

EASTER EGG HUNT AND FUN

The First United Methodist Church Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, March 15th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  The Hunt schedule will be as follows; Preschool children at 3:30pm, Kindergarten to second grade at 4:00pm and third grade to fifth grade at 4:30pm.  In-between the hunt times there will be crafts and games for all.
