Weekly Messenger - Mar. 30, 2008
WELCOME May each of us worship with openness and love between God and our fellow worshipers. Everyone present is a child of God, and all are welcomed here in his house of worship.
MARCH COMMITTEE OF THE MONTH: NURTURE The Nurturing Ministry has responsibility for the members of FUMC, The Colony. This ministry’s vision statement is to provide a warm, inviting, and nurturing environment. It is the intent of this ministry that all members will fully understand they are part of a church family that recognizes each individual, their individual needs, and their importance within the Body of Christ.
Several committees have been established to care for our members and we are continuing to seek new ways to meet future needs as they are identified. Committees that are in need of additional support at this time are College Care Packages, Catch a Ride Committee, and Homebound or Hospitalized Member Visitation. To get more information about these or other Nurture Ministry committees please contact Laura Christiansen or Rev. Jack Cloyd.
CHURCH APPRECIATION DAY Church Appreciation Day is Saturday, April 5th, at 10:00am. Volunteers are needed for some light work and cleaning.
ATTENTION ALL BAKERS Coming Saturday, April 5th is the Chili Supper—Variety Show and Dessert Auction Fundraiser! We need a lot of desserts so please, bake a cake, make a pie, bake some cookies or make any other kinds of desserts for our Dessert Auction. All of the money that is raised will go toward the Youth Mission trips. For your convenience you can drop the baked goods off Friday evening or Saturday afternoon in the big kitchen. Please make sure that it is clearly marked “Youth Dessert Auction.” Thank you for your help!
NEW STUDIES! Beginning in April, there will be an eight-week study on Prayer. The study will explore prayer history and disciplines for a robust prayer life. Sometimes it’s hard to know if we are praying “the right way” or even what we should expect in answer. This study will look at some of the prayer disciplines we can put to practice in our own lives as well as creating a strong nurturing group prayer life.
There will also be a short term (8-week) Disciple Old Testament Study. To sign up for these classes, call Rebecca Grogan at the church office 972-625-1281.
AMIGOS It is Amigos Days time again. Can you believe another year has passed? We are once again looking forward to the work days which this year will be April 18th , 19th, 25th, and 26th. The house we will be working on this year is located at 818 E. 12th St. in Dallas and our homeowner’s name is Ms. Verdell Barnes. There will be a sign-up table located in the Narthex over the next few weeks. If you are interested in signing up or would like additional information, please come by and see us. You can also call Jerry Graham at 972-625-5350 with any questions.
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS The Food Pantry is open on Thursdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Volunteers are needed from 9:00am-noon and noon-3:00pm. This opportunity to serve the community is a great and rewarding experience. Please contact the church office at 972-625-1281 if you are interested.
S.T.A.R.S. On Palm Sunday, we began our second ten-week period of S.T.A.R.S. (Studying Together And Reading Scripture). Third through fifth graders have the opportunity to memorize scripture and earn money towards mission projects. The three projects are School lunches through UMCOR for South Sudan children, Nothing But Nets, a program to purchase mosquito netting for children in Africa to prevent the spread of malaria, and Heifer International in which animals are purchased for families around the world as an income producing business. The children who want to participate receive sponsorship sheets and scriptures for memorization. This is not a contest and allows a child to make a difference in the world. They need your help. Listen to them when they tell you what they are doing and encourage them.
