Weekly Messenger - Apr. 6, 2008
WELCOME As we gather to continue celebrating our Lord’s resurrection, we’re very pleased to welcome everyone here. We strive to be a congregation that accepts all people just as they are.
UMW NEWS The next United Methodist Women’s meeting will be Monday, April 7th at 7:00pm in the Large Kitchen. That’s tomorrow ladies. The UMW Pot Luck Breakfast will be Saturday, April 12th at 8:00am in room B7. Please bring a photo copy of your mother to the breakfast. We are planning something fun for May.
UMM The United Methodist Men’s breakfast and business meeting will be Saturday, April 12th at 8:00am in the narthex. All men are invited.
NEW STUDIES! Beginning in April, there will be an eight-week study on Prayer. The study will explore prayer history and disciplines for a robust prayer life. Sometimes it’s hard to know if we are praying “the right way” or even what we should expect in answer. This study will look at some of the prayer disciplines we can put to practice in our own lives as well as creating a strong nurturing group prayer life.
There will also be a short term (8 weeks) Disciple Old Testament Study. To sign up for these classes, call Rebecca at the church (972-625-1281).
AMIGOS It is Amigos Days time again. Can you believe another year has passed? We are once again looking forward to the work days which this year will be April 18th , 19th, 25th, and 26th. The house we will be working on this year is located at 818 E. 12th St. in Dallas and our homeowner’s name is Ms. Verdell Barnes. There will be a sign-up table located in the Narthex over the next few weeks. If you are interested in signing up or would like additional information, please come by and see us. You can also call Jerry Graham at 972-625-5350 with any questions.
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS The Food Pantry is open on Thursdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Volunteers are needed from 9:00am-noon and noon-3:00pm. This opportunity to serve the community is a great and rewarding experience. Please contact the church office at 972-625-1281 if you are interested.
S.T.A.R.S. On Palm Sunday, we began our second ten-week period of S.T.A.R.S. (Studying Together And Reading Scripture). Third through fifth graders have the opportunity to memorize scripture and earn money towards mission projects. The three projects are School lunches through UMCOR for South Sudan children, Nothing But Nets, a program to purchase mosquito netting for children in Africa to prevent the spread of malaria, and Heifer International in which animals are purchased for families around the world as an income producing business. The children who want to participate receive sponsorship sheets and scriptures for memorization. This is not a contest and allows a child to make a difference in the world. They need your help. Listen to them when they tell you what they are doing and encourage them.
CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS If you are a senior or know someone who is, please call the church office at 972-625-1281, with your information. The 2008 Senior Dinner is Saturday, May 31.
